How Stellar is managing our care home during this time

We acquired Shakespeare Court, Bradford for our Growth investors in November last year. It is an 80-bed care home and operates two independent wings. All residents are in one wing. Prior to lockdown, we were embarking on a phased refurbishment program to improve the environment and attract new residents.

The care home represents less than 5% of the total value of our Growth portfolio. This is part of our strategy to offer all investors a diversified portfolio.

In recent days there has been coverage of the sector in the news. We wanted to take the opportunity to advise that, to date, we have not had any incidence of COVID-19 at our Shakespeare Court Care Home.

Latest news from our care home joint venture partner 

Our joint-venture partner; Silverline Care – whose directors have 40 years’ experience in managing and operating in this sector – states that the situation is being monitored day by day.

Together, Stellar, Silverline Care and the Shakespeare Court staff members have put in place a number of measures to preserve the health and wellbeing of residents and staff.

The Silverline senior management team are in regular contact with the care home staff. This enables them to provide whatever additional support is necessary for the residents.

At present, the home is closed to both visitors and new admissions. However, this situation is under constant review. The expectation is that we will start admitting as and when it is safe to do so from a staffing and resident perspective.

In the meantime, we plan to take advantage of the lack of admission activity to step up some of the second phase work. In particular, we are looking at refurbishing the closed first floor unit. Having undertaken a risk assessment, we are comfortable that we can safely allow access to that self-contained area. This can be done via a dedicated rear access-point, without a risk of cross-contamination to any of the residents.
